Earlier this week Gitte Henning 1 made its way through Trongisvágs fjord to land Atlantic mackerel at Varðin Pelagic, after its first voyage with Varðin. When the Atlantic mackerel is caught, it is pumped straight into RWS tanks that cool the mackerel to -1,5 °C. The tanks are filled with the perfect seawater to fish ratio. Advanced control systems closely monitor the RWS tanks from catch to landing.
When Atlantic mackerel is processed at Varðin Pelagic, advanced cooling systems also keep it at -1,5 °C. Varðin Pelagic is a fully automated and highly streamlined processing plant. It only takes 15 minutes from landing to freezer. The factory has 16 processing lines,9 packaging lines and a freezing capacity of 1.200 metric ton per day.
Varðin Pelagic is equipped with best horizontal plate freezers on the market, and later in this mackerel/herring season brand new innovative IQF freezers will be installed. Horizontal plate and IQF freezers are both excellent for fast and quality preserving freezing. Atlantic mackerel is frozen to -20 °C in less than 4 hours with our horizontal plate freezers and in less than an hour with our IQF freezers.
These facilities and processes ensure, that the Atlantic mackerel is of the highest quality, when it reaches our customers.
